Since its introduction in 2006 the legislation banning smoking in public places in Spain has been ignored and resisted by every which way possible. The main reason behind the most recent delays in its implementation came from the lobbying of interested parties on behalf of the retail hotel and restaurant industry citing the loss in income at a time of recession as being wholly detrimental to an economic recovery in Spain.

But the inevitable cannot be avoided forever and by the start of 2011 the ban will be in place and enforced across Spain with heavy fines to be implemented for those who try to resist any further.

However, the future may not be as bleak as smokers and cafe and bar owners in Spain may think. A solution that will keep smokers and non-smokers happy and drinking in the bars of towns across Spain is launched this week in the form of an American company that supplies amongst a range of products, high quality electronic cigarettes.
